Do you wake up in the morning, saunter into the bathroom and then think- Ugh! I look like a train wreck? But your husband thinks you’re a beauty queen. You’re a mess, and he thinks your lovely. Women want to be perfect but fail repeatedly, right?
Welcome to womanhood…
Wrinkles are popping up on my face yearly, and grey is taking over my head at an alarming rate. The smooth and almost flawless skin I had at age eighteen is slowly changing as I age and become more distinguished. Yes, I’ll call it that!
But my husband seems to see me through rose coloured glasses, and he wishes I would see what he sees.
Yesterday I bought a new bathing suit. I stood looking in the mirror, and I no longer see the gorgeous legs I had as a teenager. They have been replaced with slightly thicker and more dimples thighs.
But that’s not what Vance saw.
He thought I looked fabulous in my one piece navy suit, with coral flowers cascading down the sides of it. Somehow despite the twenty-nine years, we’ve been married, he still remembers the teenage girl he dated. He has a pair of magical glasses he wears and sees me only through them.
Vance is a man who uses words of praise generously. When we were first married he would say to me:
💗 You’re beautiful
💗 You’re sweet
💗 You’re talented
💗 You’re athletic
Add about twelve other attributes to this list that he would name.
Are you starting to relate to this story? Does your husband do the same, and he tells you daily why he loves you? But you don’t feel like you deserve the compliments or praise?
As women, most of us are critical and extremely hard on ourselves. Rarely do we see a woman who thinks to herself, I am absolutely perfect! Nor should we. Every woman on the face of the planet is filled to the brim with imperfections and flaws.
Me included!
A fellow blogger emailed me, and we were talking back and forth about how sometimes, especially Christian women, can have a tendency to want the world to view us through rose coloured glasses- perfect.
When I received Laura’s feature post for my new series, Inspiring Women, I was blown away by her honesty. She completely cracked open her heart and laid it on her keyboard for the world to see. Laura is going to share her flaws with you and her joys.
Raw. Real. Resonating.
It can feel like standing in front of the world in your new bathing suit.
The amazing thing about asking women to share their struggles and joys is not only am I going to learn from them but so are you. We are going to walk together sharing our weaknesses and how God moves in our life to make us stronger.
We will hold each other up with prayer and encouragement.
I can see which counties women from around the world view my blog from. Some of them are from communist countries-yes! They do not hear the gospel message, or about the love of God where they live. But they can read about it on this blog or other Christian websites they visit.
I hope we can spread the gospel message and good news together to the far corners of the world and give women hope, who feel hopeless.
Every Monday at 7:00 pm eastern, I will feature a new woman. If you never want to miss a post or you’d like to email your friends the story, sign up to follow by email. Once a week you will receive a letter with a 💗 symbol letting you know the stories that were released that week, plus a bonus story only in my newsletter. You can unsubscribe at any time. No feelings hurt over here.
We will continue to be flawed and fail repeatedly until we reach heaven. But in the meantime, we can learn to live in God’s grace, as we encourage one other, and build each other up.
