Thousands of years ago, she lay in the hay on the stable floor. Just a young girl amongst the sounds of animals settling in for the night. She looked down at her newborn son and was filled with awe. Inspiring Women: Life with Mary
God had chosen her, to birth the son of God.
A deep love filled her heart as her son squirmed and wiggled and yawned. Mary did not know the heartache she would go through one day. Or the impact her son would have on the world.
Mary had said yes to God when he had told her he wanted her to carry the son of God in her womb. She was unmarried and being seen pregnant would have had severe consequences for her. But after an angel visited her fiance Joseph, he married her to protect her reputation.
She birthed her first child, the son of God, in a stable. As she gathered her newborn in her arms and snuggled him close to her breast, she was in awe of the calling God had placed on her life.
Thousands of years later, another little boy was born to a young mother. She looked down at her chubby son and smiled. From the time she was young, she had wanted to be a mother.
A deep love filled her soul for the baby she was holding, and she vowed to protect him for the rest of her life.
She didn’t know the depth of the pain she was about to go through, she was unaware of the impact her son would one day have on the world. Tears of unstoppable joy streamed for hours, these tears would eventually turn to deep sadness.
She questioned God for years and thought he had forgotten about her son, as he went through years of pain and isolation.
Twenty-nine years ago I was that 20-year-old girl. God knew I needed to go on a rare journey of pain and heartache so he could reach my heart. He also knew my son’s bittersweet story would one day reach thousands of people.
Kyle was born with autism.
God desires to use the imperfect to share the love of Jesus with others.

Because our family of seven had had such an unusual life story, it turned into a book. Which also led to making a website. Then an Inspiring Women series was born from that.
Mary’s son’s life ended in the most tragic way. She stood at his feet looking up at him at the foot of the cross, his body so bruised, cut, and literally broken – he was unrecognizable. Oh, the heartache and devastation she must have felt. How Mary didn’t die of a broken heart is a mystery to me.
Jesus was born to suffer, to sacrifice, to die so we could live eternally. I believe Mary’s pain was felt just as deeply as her sons was felt.
I realize my son was born and allowed to suffer so others could come to Christ and He could be glorified. Kyle’s never gone a day without anxiety or pain. He’s had a tough life, one that was quite sad for many years. But I believe his presence here is just a small whisper in the grand plan. In heaven, Kyle has an abundance of gifts stored up for him and a peaceful eternal life he will live one day.
Kyle’s birthday is this week. He was born exactly seven days before Christmas.
We will bring his birthday dinner up to his bedroom, where it is quieter and eat supper with him. I will hug him and stroke his head which is growing more grey each month. He will lay his head on my shoulder, then grab my face in his hands and say…” more cupcakes.”
I will say the prayer I whisper every year, “Lord, please heal my son.” But for some reason, God has been stalling in giving this mother her secret dreams and hopes for her son, and I have come to peace with God’s decision.
One day Kyle, Vance and I will walk the streets of gold in Heaven, and we will marvel at the people walking with us, who heard of Jesus Christ’s forgiveness through Kyle’s story. We will look at each other and say…
“It was all worth it!”
In the meantime, we keep writing and sharing about Jesus – due to Kyle’s incredible life story. This site has been running for over a year and a half now, it has been an honour to share the stories of other women through our Inspiring Women series, Jazmin’s journey with cancer, and Kyle’s life with autism.
A few of the Women:
- Life With Laura: A son who was on life support.
2.Life With Jami: Doctors advised her to stop medical care for her newborn twin daughter.
3. Life with Rachelle: A mom of three, recently diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.
4. Life with Laila:Â A mom of four girls, who suffered depression and finally found help.
Mary was used by God – just an ordinary young woman – like all the Inspiring Women who have been featured on this site. I am thankful these women said yes to God, like Mary, when she was asked to do something that was frightening.
God has blessed us in so many ways, we are truly honoured God has used Kyle, Jazmin, and the Inspiring Women as a lighthouse for God’s kingdom through Beauty from Ashes.
Happy 29th Birthday Kyle.
We pray you will also ask Jesus for forgiveness and to be your Saviour, so you too might find peace and hope.
Merry Christmas!
