I was listening to God’s whispers. “Cindy, go home.” These weren’t the profound words I thought God would say to me when I went to a conference for writers and speakers.
I had a plan—a grand plan! I would go to the conference and take all the workshops on speaking and combine two of my favourite passions: speaking and travelling. My head spun with dreams of travelling to Europe, Asia, and South America. The conference gave me all the tools I needed to accomplish my goals.
As a husband and wife led us in worship one evening, I heard God whispering, “Cindy, go home and love your family. Spoil your husband and devote yourself to caring for the people I gave you. I also need you to spend more time with Me.” God showed me that home is where He wants my heart. For now, God and I are focusing on building strong relationships within my family circle. He may decide later that I can travel the world speaking.
Are You Listening to God’s Whispers?
Sister, have you, too, been listening to God’s whispers? What is He saying to you? You may have your calendar full of good things:
Lunch dates
Speaking engagements
Ministering three days a week at church
Feeding the poor
Volunteering at your child’s school
Attending self-help groups
Caring for a significant social media ministry
All these events are lovely. But too many good things can put our family on the back burner. The busier we are, the more hectic our homes become.

What Can You Do to Connect with Your Family
In a world where marriages are falling apart, kids are raised by iPads and social media, and grandparents are almost nonexistent, we desperately need strong families built on the principles God laid out in the Bible.
When my kids were in high school, their teacher asked them how many ate dinner with their families, and in a class of twenty-five, there were only two kids who raised their hands. The rest of the teens desired to sit at a table and eat dinner with their parents each evening.
Our society needs more connections and face-to-face conversations. If our husbands and kids aren’t connecting with us, who will they turn to? (I am thankful my husband is a logger and connects with trees.)
I was ministering to women, and it was good, but it also pulled me away from time that was needed in my home. God wants me to find a better balance of family time and ministry.
If it’s time to turn your heart toward Jesus and home, ask Him to show you how to make the change.
I hope you will take the time to hear God’s whisperings. He loves to lead his daughters in how He wants them to live. He may ask you to step outside your dreams and goals and pursue what He believes is best for your family.
Follow the One that always leads you to peace and joy.
Dear Lord, thank you for loving us so much that you want to lead us in ways that bring us back to you. Please help my sister hear your voice clearly. Guide her and show her the way you want her to go. Amen.
